Button down or button up?

In an earlier post I mentioned that I didn’t know the difference between a button down shirt and a button up shirt. I spoke with my husband and he didn’t either. He assumed it was a personal preference of which you’d rather say. I’ve been thinking about it for a few days and decided to look it up. Indeed, there is a difference!  In the above pictures you will notice the collars are different. One collar has buttons to button them down to the shirt.  The other collar doesn’t. The one with buttons makes it a button down. The buttonless collar is a button up. Also, all button down shirt are button ups, but not all button ups are button downs. Kind of like the phrase: all thumbs are fingers but not all fingers are thumbs. I hope that wasn’t too confusing. Anyway, I wanted to share that tidbit of information I learned today!

Love and peace,

Christal
